Brand Spotlight: Jo Anne Santos Books. Every brand in this portfolio has a sound, and this one is the quietest on purpose. Jo Anne Santos Books is the publishing arm of Famous Factory Inc., and Jo-Anne Santos is both the author on its catalogue and a co-owner of the company that publishes her. The books are not a side project attached to a media company. Publishing is one of the lines this house was built on, and she is the reason it is here.

The author

Jo-Anne Santos is a Toronto poet. She writes about the parts of life people usually summarise in one sentence and feel for years: heartbreak, grief, love, and the slow work of becoming yourself again. Her writing is direct and unguarded, built on short lines that carry more than they say. Readers meet her at joannesantos.com, follow her as @byjoannesantos, and read her ongoing writing on Substack.

Growing Wings: the debut

Her first book, Growing Wings, was published in 2019. It is the debut collection, the one that turned private writing into a public catalogue. A first book does something no later book can do: it proves the writer is willing to be read. Growing Wings started the publishing story of this house years before the company around it took its current shape, and the book is still in print and still finding readers, which is exactly what a catalogue is for.

You Let Me Fly: the second book

You Let Me Fly arrived on June 24, 2026, nine years after the debut. Its themes are heartbreak, grief, love, self-discovery, divorce, and rebuilding, and the book works through them in that order: what broke, what it cost, and what a person builds from there. The book was edited by Avery of Ink & Insights. Together, the two books form a record with a clear arc, from first flight to flying again.

Why a media house keeps a poetry arm

Music moves fast and media moves faster. Books are the slow asset, and that is their value. A printed book does not chase an algorithm. It sits on a shelf, gets lent to a friend, and gets found again years later by exactly the reader who needs it. For Famous Factory, the books give the catalogue a depth and a permanence that daily publishing cannot. It is also why the Sunday Letter, this page's weekly reflection, draws on her poetry spirit: the house takes its calm from the same place its books come from.

Built to be handed down

There is a family fact under the business one. These books were written by one of the two people who own this company, and they stay in the family catalogue for as long as the house stands. That permanence changes how the work is treated: no rush to discount it, no pressure to chase a trend, and no distance between the author's name and the company's name. The books carry her name. The house carries both.
